How to Hide Chrome Browser Tabs?

If you’re using internet at office and you access the all the social media like Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Google, etc at your desktop in the office, chances are there for getting caught up by your boss.  If he finds you using internet at office either he will deduct the internet charges from your salary or just fire you immediately.  If you still want to access internet at office and at the same time not to be get caught up by your boss, you need hide the websites you’re using.  For that, you can use chrome extension PanicButton (applicable only for Chrome browser). 

You can hide your tabs in the Chrome browser just by clicking on the PanicButton icon at the top of the browser, just next to the address bar or by using keyboard keys. Let’s see how to do this.

  • Step 1: Install PanicButton in your Google Chrome Browser.  Once you installed it you can see the icon at the top of the browser, next to the address bar

  • Step 2: Click on the Icon to make changes in settings
  • Step 3: If you want to use the keyboard shortcut, choose the option ‘yes’ in the Keyboard shortcut menu.  You can use either combination of keys of just one key to hide your tabs.  Choose the combination of keys you want to use in the dropdown list.

  • Step 4: Suppose someone wants you at his table and you have kept tabs open which you’re unable to close immediately but you want to hide them with password, you can choose the password protection; set ‘yes’ to protect the tabs with password and give your password then click ‘Save’.

  • Step 5: If you want extra protect, you can check the box ‘advanced protection’. A menu will open; just drop a bookmark in the space provided and click ‘save’. It helps to protect your settings including password.

  • Step 6: When you hide your tabs, you can simply open a page just to distract who is looking at your desktop. Use ‘Set a safe page’ to open a new page; you can set it to ‘New Tab’, ‘blank page’ or use custom page.  Type the custom page in the space provided, ex: www.google.com. Once you hide the tabs, your custom page will open.

  • Step 7: You can also hide the PanicButton icon by choosing ‘no’ in the next row. Close the tab.

  • Step 8: If you want to retrieve the tabs, just click the PanicButton icon. Type the password, all the tabs will open.
  • Step 9: If you want to make changes in the settings, go to Chrome settings à Tools à Click Extensions.  Move to PanicButton, click ‘options’. When you make changes, it will ask your saved bookmark, just drop the bookmark you have already chosen and click ‘continue’. Make the changes and close the tab.
